Assistant Professor of English - Indigenous Literatures

Position Description

ENGLISH - Full-time, academic-year, tenure-track Assistant Professor of English, College of Liberal Arts at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California, to begin September 12, 2019. PhD in English or a closely related field with specialization in Indigenous literatures required, with expertise in Latinx literatures highly desired. Initial appointment is for two years, subject to renewal. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

Candidates must show a strong commitment to teaching excellence and provide evidence of professional activity that keeps them abreast of knowledge and developments within their discipline. The teaching load averages 12 units per quarter (with course load reductions in each of the first two years to help establish one's professional development activities), with correspondingly reasonable expectations for scholarship and service. All tenured and tenure-track faculty teach courses in their areas of specialization at hire at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

In addition to standard start-up packages, candidates selected through this diversity cluster hire will be provided $10,000 to support their work in diversity and inclusion. Once hired, candidates will collaborate with their dean and others to develop a plan for utilizing these funds for supplemental compensation, assigned time, or professional development activities. Required Qualifications / Specialized Skills

PhD in English or closely related field with specialization in Indigenous literatures requied; experience and excellence in college-level teaching; and evidence of professional activity that keeps the candidate abreast of knowledge and developments within English Studies and their field of Indigenous literatures. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered, but must provide proof that the doctorate is complete prior to the start of appointment. 

  

Preferred Qualifications / Skills

Expertise in Latinx literatures highly desired.
