The Department of Languages at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applicants for a tenure track entry-level assistant professor of Spanish beginning August 2019. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Latin American Literature, with a background in Afro-Latin American Literature and Culture, and native or near native fluency in Spanish. Salary will be commensurate with applicant's credentials and qualifications.

Founded in 1925 by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, XULA is Catholic and historically Black. Located in New Orleans, the mission of the University is to contribute to the promotion of a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society.
The successful applicant will teach a twelve hour teaching load per semester and will be able to teach all levels of Spanish as well as culture courses in English for Xavier University of Louisiana's new Afro-Latin American and Caribbean Studies minor. In addition, successful candidates must have the ability and willingness to work collegially and have the ability to develop and teach face-to-face as well as online classes, enthusiasm and experience recruiting and mentoring, and willingness to contribute to the growth and recruitment of the undergraduate Languages programs.
